PART ONE: a professional degree in architecture. This can be obtained:

1. through a bachelor of science or art in anything + a masters in architecture (most frequently) 2. through a bachelor of architecture (a longer undergraduate program only available at select schools)

PART TWO: to become a registered architect, you must take exams, a series of nine, which certify you. You also must log a certain number of intern hours covering a range of the design phases. A lot of people that work at architecture firms are not necessarily registered architects though.
